Celebrated as shamanic fire-ceremony, the gathering will be held outdoors in a circle around a small fire, to collectively release what is no longer needed as well as to transform and bring in renewal, by connecting self, each other, the elements and the land.

How can neighbourhood infrastructure protect us in times of crisis, & help us build alternative futures?

Following a screening of the short film ‘Retrofit Reimagined: The Future is Already Here’, Immy Kaur invites us to explore ‘3ºC Neighbourhood‘, research by CIVIC SQUARE and Dark Matter Labs seeking to understand the current risks UK urban neighbourhoods face over this century due to climate and ecological breakdown under a high emissions scenario.

It is one of several pieces of research underpinning Neighbourhood Public Square, a site of regenerative civic infrastructure at the heart of Ladywood, Birmingham, co-building and democratising access to the spaces, tools and resources for a bold, imaginative, distributed transition. This is a conversation for those of us rooted in Ladywood, as well as anyone thinking about urban infrastructure more broadly.

POETRY GROWS EVERYWHERE! WALKSHOP IN NATURE

With Nathan Lunt 11.30am-12.30pm

Poetry has always drawn inspiration from nature, celebrating the beauty all around us in carefully curated words.

But as cities grow larger, roads grow longer, and human influence stretches further and further through expansion, pollution and never-ending “progress”, can we still find space to celebrate nature while we have the chance?

Join poet Nathan for a guided walk around the festival site, where we will tune into the natural world noticing how it’s shaped, disrupted, and sometimes harmed by human impact. From buildings to rubbish, we’ll explore the contrast between the wild and the man-made.

Along the way, we’ll use poetry to reflect, respond, and imagine better futures.
