The Birmingham Settlement Nature & Wellbeing Centre
Our Ladywood centre is a green oasis in the heart of the city, home to a community café, two geodesic learning domes, and an outdoor Amphitheatre. Here we are developing eco-initiatives and approaches to sustainable neighbourhoods.
A fallow 3-acre playing field transformed for community use, providing a sheltered space with communal facilities and cafe, all of which the reservoir lacked prior to it’s completion in August 2021.
Our Neighbourhood Futures Festival brings together communities and researchers to explore how we can create more sustainable neighbourhoods to secure our future.
The Birmingham Settlement Nature & Wellbeing Centre is just off Selwyn Road. The site is also accessible from the path around the Edgbaston reservoir.
Open: Monday – Friday, 8.30am – 4pm.
Running group Sunday 9.30 – 11.30am.

The Red Shed Community Café
Welcome to our friendly community café!
Situated inside a unique eco-friendly building with views over our beautiful field and the reservoir, pop-in and enjoy a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks whilst connecting with nature.
Open Monday & Tuesday 12.30-4pm and Wednesday-Friday 8.30am-4pm.
Our café couldn’t run without the support of volunteers. If you have time to spare to support the café, get in touch!
Eco domes for learning and wellbeing
We have two learning domes unique to the city of Birmingham, an 8m ‘Sanctuary’ dome and a 6m ‘Retreat’ dome.
Made from aluminum and glass, the domes are primarily used as classroom settings to deliver eco-learning activities raising awareness of environmental issues. We also host activities for wellbeing in the domes, like art classes and Tai Chi.
The domes provide an immersive and well-connected experience to the environment, allowing communities to feel connected to nature irrespective of the weather!
Birmingham’s best kept secret; our Nature & Wellbeing Centre is home to an outdoor Amphitheatre for community arts and performance!
Volunteer at the Birmingham Settlement Nature & Wellbeing Centre!
There are many volunteer opportunities available from outdoor nature conservation and site maintenance to gardening and planting, supporting our community projects and helping in our café at the ‘Red Shed’.
Opportunities are tailored to needs depending on skills and experience, even if you’ve never volunteered before!
Volunteering with us is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills and make a positive impact on the community and environment – enhancing and protecting wildlife and green spaces for future generations.
