This is a broad area of our work, aiming to get people involved and engaged in what goes on in your local area. We deliver fitness activities get you to a physically and mentally healthy place so that you can get involved in the issues that impact on you, your family and your community. This is delivered through a wide range of wellbeing services including specific men and women’s programmes and providing the opportunity to engage at a higher level through volunteering.
Fitness, health & wellbeing activities
From yoga to tai chi and from fitness to bhangra, we’ve got something to get everyone moving! We also deliver a health & wellbeing forum to provide an open space for you to discuss issues relating to health with our Health & Wellbeing Worker and other local people.
When our learners of previous ESOL classes at the Settlement wanted to stay in touch and continue developing their English language skills, we introduced our ‘Women of Witton’ programme, aiming to empower local women and keep them connected to their community. The group currently meet online every Tuesday for ‘Coffee and Conversation’, a session which is open to all and offers you the chance to meet other people from your local community and learn new skills. Prior to covid-19, the group also enjoyed trips outside of the local community and often organised their own events and activities to share skills and learn from each other.
Our Men’s programme was established in 2019 to provide opportunities and a space for local men living in Aston to meet up, socialise and get involved in activities, workshops, trips and events throughout the year. The programme is driven by its members through forums which shape future activities and give local residents the chance to have a say in what goes on in their locality. Based on this feedback the programme established four weekly activities: tai chi, boxercise, chess & dominoes and a walking group.
