DWP have safeguards they should follow when making decisions affecting vulnerable ESA claimants. Safeguards can be useful in addressing many of the most common problems vulnerable people experience when claiming ESA. This half day course will be of interest to advisers who work with clients with mental health problems and learning difficulties. It will equip advisors with a working knowledge of the safeguarding guidance and practical ways to use these to address destitution. It considers which safeguards apply; safeguarding and common ESA problems; looks at the guidance in detail; how to change DWP decisions and the weaknesses of safeguards. The course will suit advisers with a working knowledge of ESA.
