Community Action
Working closely with local residents and partners, we develop community action services to get people involved and engaged in what goes on in their neighbourhood. This is a broad area of our work, aiming to give people agency to shape their futures.
What We Do
Wellbeing Workshops
We provide weekly Wellbeing Workshops for all, hosted by our in-house Trainer, David. Sessions are 2 hours and delivered from our Community Centres in Kingstanding and Ladywood.
Sports & Community Centre, Kingstanding: Wednesdays, 10:30am-12:30pm
Nature & Wellbeing Centre, Ladywood: Mondays, 1pm-3pm
Workshops encourage learning from our shared experiences and from our differences, supporting attendees to maintain and maximise their physical, emotional, psychological, and social wellbeing. Attendees are encouraged to share their own insights into wellbeing and learn from the experiences of others.
Topics may include mindfulness, understanding and managing stress, improving sleep, physical activity and wellbeing, enhancing health through nutrition, and more.
Arts & Crafts Groups
Accessible and social creative groups for wellbeing are an important part of our community offer, providing opportunities to get imaginative and take a break from the stresses of daily life. Groups include The Crafty Club and Sewing Group at the Sports & Community Centre, and Art for Wellbeing with Pinky at the Nature & Wellbeing Centre.
The Crafty Club: Wednesdays, 10am-12pm
Sewing Group: Thursdays, 10am-12pm
Art for Wellbeing: Mondays, 10am-2pm
All are welcome and crafting materials are provided – feel free to bring your own projects to work on!
User Voice Forums
Listening to the lived experience of our communities is an important part of our role creating opportunity and choice for local people. Through feedback forums and surveys with those who access our services, we can continue to meet the wants and needs of our communities through listening to and acting on suggestions.
As well as user voice forums, we have been working with the University of Bristol’s Centre for Socio-Digital Futures (CENSOF) since 2024 – collaborating with our communities to imagine what the future might look like as a result of technological advancements. These sessions are a great way to get people involved in deciding what they like about both their area and Birmingham Settlement, and what they would like to see improved.
For future opportunities to get involved, keep an eye on our What’s On page.
Social & Recreation
We all need to take a break sometimes, and what better way than meeting new people and keeping active? We have a variety of activities designed for everyone to get involved and try something different. With fitness activities such as Yoga, Table Tennis, Chair Pilates, and Archery on offer, plus socialising groups for wellbeing like Social Walk & Talk, Game On! Board Game Cafe, and Community Litter Pick, there’s sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
Plus, our Community Gym space at the Sports & Community Centre is a great way to stay active in a relaxed and welcoming setting. With treadmills, cross trainers, multi-use gym machine, free weights, and more, book your induction today to get started!
