Based at Edgbaston Reservoir, the Birmingham Settlement Nature and Wellbeing Centre is a wonderful and vibrant green space that aims to improve the health, happiness and wellness of the diverse local community in Ladywood. At the heart of everything we do is a focus on mental and physical wellbeing, strengthening the connection between communities and nature.
‘Sow to Grow’ is a fantastic project, seeking to buy resources to offer the community a beginners guide to gardening. Donations will help to buy tools, timber and seeds, and help us to bring in horticulture specialists to teach the community new growing skills to put into practice on their own gardens, balconies or windowsills!
Last year we delivered a beginners gardening workshop called ‘Plant with Pat’. This group was really successful and helped the local community to get into gardening in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment. Going forward, we want to work with individuals and families to promote grow-your-own healthy and carbon light produce. We would love to build new raised beds, a soft fruit zone and a new polytunnel to educate people about composting their food scraps to reduce landfill.
