Based at Edgbaston Reservoir, the Birmingham Settlement Nature and Wellbeing Centre is a wonderful and vibrant green space that aims to improve the health, happiness and wellness of the diverse local community in Ladywood, in the heart of Birmingham.

At the heart of everything we do is a focus on mental and physical wellbeing, strengthening the connection between communities and nature.

As well as our 3-acres of open space, our site is home to a unique and eye-catching structure known as the Red Shed, an eco-friendly building that provides a warm, sheltered indoor space for people to feel welcome, connected and safe

We have a bold vision for our site, and we need your help to make it happen!

HELP US TO GROW COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Our sustainable composting project, Let’s Grow Together, strives to help even more people reap the benefits of nature by bringing the local community together, providing respite from urban life and nurturing minds and connection to nature and each other – all while nourishing the earth and developing this green local resource for all.

Our goal is to build 10 new growing bays, reduce waste destined for landfill, and provide food for our community, volunteers and local food banks – educating children and the community about composting along the way!

We will use rotating drums to turn the soil, and a perspex viewing box so people can see the whole growing process!

WHAT WE WANT TO ACHEIVE

Our composting project will:

  • Unite the local community; from schools and neighbours, to care givers and vulnerable adults including adults with learning disabilities
  • Educate the community on how to compost and plant growing practices, teaching transferrable skills so people can grow at home
  • Help children to understand where food comes from, promoting sustainability, health and wellbeing
  • Reduce food waste and supply local foodbanks and community food distributors with fresh ingredients and homegrown produce
  • Help develop, enhance and preserve our green space for the enjoyment of future generations, promoting learning in sustainable green spaces

HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Please help us to grow our impact for communities in Ladywood, and connect more children, families and local people to growing, building stronger and more resilient communities.

We are grateful for whatever you can give in support of this project!

A note on donations… for every donation made, AVIVA will match the fund, doubling the donation! If you donate £10, we will receive £20 to our community composting project.
