Starting in August, Birmingham Settlement is partnering with Birmingham and the Black Country Wildlife Trust to deliver a series of programmes centred around wellbeing and connecting with nature. These will be based from our site by Edgbaston Reservoir – you can learn more about this site here.

OCN Level 1 programme: Species Identification
8th August – 12th August
- Learn to identify different species of wildlife in a variety of habitats, using identification keys and basic surveying techniques
- These sessions will run Monday – Friday, 10am – 2:30pm
- These sessions are free for 16-25 year olds
- Parent/guardian permission needed for under 18s
- There may be space for over 25s, please enquire for further details

Health and Wellbeing Programme
10th August, 17th August, 24th August, 31st August
- Learn skills to help connect with the natural world, including:
- crafting,
- birdwatching,
- gardening,
- gathering plants,
- being mindful in nature, practising using all 5 senses
- Sessions will run 10am – 3pm
- Sessions available for ages 18+

Volunteer Sessions: Run by Birmingham Settlement in partnership with the Wildlife Trust
Starting 9th September
- These sessions will run every Friday 10am – 2pm from 9th September 2022
- Ages 16+ (parent/guardian permission for under 18s)
- Learn a variety of practical skills and help develop Selwyn Road Playing Fields
- Activities include:
- gardening in our veg beds, allotment and polytunnel
- creating ‘nature corridors’ through wild grass and brambles
- trimming willow wind tunnels
- identifying wildlife in the field – using mammal traps, insect catchers and much more!
