Our first Family Fun Day since lockdown took place at the end of August and was a huge success. With a turn out of 300 people, children, young people and families had a jam packed day full of fun.
The event was organised by our Community Action team and Ladywood’s Early Help team and was aimed at families living in temporary accommodation. We organised coaches for families and Change Kitchen provided hot food. The event started at 11 and finished at 4 and we were delighted that people stayed and had fun for the whole day. Luckily the sun was out, which made it possible for everybody to enjoy the activities on offer. There were so many ways for people to take part. Activities included face painting and crafts for children and football, tennis and tug of war organised and facilitated by our Youth Worker. Most popular was the option of sailing on the reservoir. We had entertainment, ranging from circus performance and balloon art, to dance, choir and even African Drumming.
After so much hard work and anticipation, staff were immensely pleased at the wholehearted enthusiasm from children, young people and families. It was lovely to see that so many people are keen to get back out into their communities after the strain of the last year or so. We are hopeful that things are finally changing for the better. We are looking forward to planning more activity days for families across the communities we support.
