Since 1899, Birmingham Settlement has been working to create opportunity and choice – connecting and empowering people through action, activities, and shared learning to build and sustain wellbeing for all.
As part of our ongoing development of our Nature & Wellbeing Centre by Edgbaston Reservoir, the Settlement is now looking for an energetic self-starter to develop and lead existing and new activities; this includes the recruitment and safe supervision of volunteers and participants who with us, will drive and implement our vision for what is a unique and beautiful space just a short walk from the city centre.
To succeed, you will be a proactive, creative, and committed individual with good knowledge and practical awareness around growing and horticulture, as well as an understanding of how nature and environment can support individuals and community to improved wellbeing.
This is a varied hands-on role which will change in line with seasons and presenting needs; based outside most of the time you will need to be physically fit with a strong set of practical skills to ensure the safe development and maintenance of the site including grow plots, our two geodesic learning domes, amphitheatre, orchard and landscaped spaces, as well as an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders with confidence and humour.
A very busy but rewarding and hands on role that cuts across all aspects of the charity as we continue to grow and develop, this is a great opportunity to join one of Birmingham’s oldest charities; to drive participation and support in the development of the activities and services our people want, deserve, and expect.
