East Birmingham

Following a successful Reaching Communities Big Lottery Fund bid, in 2016 we expanded our work in the east of Birmingham. Through this work we are delivering a Champions 4 Skills programme through which we are up-skilling and empowering local people to become a part of their local community, working together to solve problems that matter to their community and also helping the local community have a voice so that they can influence what happens in their area. Through this project and working with the local community, we deliver a number of services as detailed below.
edited_1479499034505This project focuses on young people aged 18 to 24 who are not in education, employment or training, older adults, those who have become isolated and the wider community. We are working closely with local service providers, education providers, employers and the local authority to bring about real and lasting change to the people of Shard End and Kitts Green.

Our hope is to develop a skilled and committed volunteer network which can work together to bring about positive change in the local community, with volunteers who can support other people to get involved. Alongside the development of volunteers and up-skilling of local people, we are also looking to develop a number of new services for the local community, reflecting some of the longstanding and successful services that we already deliver in Aston.

We have a Community Hub on Kitts Green Road which provides various meeting and activity spaces and acts as a focal point for the local community, providing facilities and resources to foster greater local community activity and bring residents together. Based in Lea Village, the hub houses our Lottery funded Champions 4 Skills project and team alongside providing free computer use and internet access, jobs club, coffee mornings, access to information, advice and guidance and workshops and training.
