Current health statistics suggest both anxiety and stress related illnesses are very real problems for significant numbers of the population. In recent years there has been a growing awareness of the beneficial effects of simple techniques such as Mindfulness in helping to reduce the experience of stress and anxiety and enhancing overall wellbeing. The coronavirus pandemic has caused much concern and anxiety and many people have suffered as a result of enforced social isolation. Mindfulness techniques if practiced regularly can make a positive contribution to overall wellbeing during these uncertain times. This is a two-part training course.
The content of the course will include:
- What is mindfulness?
- Exploring stress and anxiety
- What is happening inside the brain and the body during stress and anxiety?
- How stress and anxiety are directly linked to both physical and mental illnesses
- Exploring cognitive bias – how our thinking and our beliefs influence the experience of stress
- Brain Wave Patterns and mindfulness
- Neuroplasticity – ‘we are not stuck with the brains we have’
- The Default Mode Network and the Task Positive Network – how neuroscience supports the benefits of mindfulness
- An opportunity during the training to practice at least two ( 10 minute) mindfulness practices
This session will last approximately 120 minutes and is delivered online via Zoom.
